Line rental is rising by £1.50 a month on average but some will pay an extra £2.10. Out of bundle international call charges are rising to 20p per minute, from 15p. Call charges to UK landlines and mobile phones are also rising. It is also hiking the price of a number of phone connection charges. This includes a 3p rise for calls made to UK landlines and mobile phones, 5p hike for international calls.

The higher prices will be introduced on 24 January. Customers will be able to exit their contracts early if they’re not happy paying more.

The average line rental increase to customers will be £1.50 or £18 per year. The exact amount will depend on when the customer joined the company, and what they currently pay.

The new line rental price will be £18.50, but EE told us there is not one set line rental fee for all customers. How much they pay depends on when they signed up. 

One reader, has told us he will see a 12.8% rise to his line rental, which will cost him an extra £25.20 a year.

Charges to calls made outside a monthly contract are also rising.

UK landline call charges will be increased to 12.5p per minute from 11.5p. Mobile phone charges are going up to 15p per minute from 14p. While all international connection charges are rising to 20p from 15p.

EE says it is pushing up prices to pay for continued investment in the network.

A spokesperson said: ‘We are contacting our home broadband customers to inform them of some changes.  We are making these to the cost of line rental and calls made outside of their allowances from 24 January 2017.

‘Despite these changes, EE remains one of the most competitive providers in the market. We are committed to offering our customers the best value and service.  We are bringing all EE customer service calls back to the UK and Ireland by the end of 2016.’

EE customers can leave without penalty if they speak to the provider within 30 days

Existing customers will be allowed to leave early, without a penalty. To do this they need to call EE within 30 days of receiving notification of the price hike.

‘For those looking for cheaper line rental, smaller providers such as DST come in at a lower price. So it’s definitely worth shopping around. And don’t forget to look at the total cost of the package when comparing deals.’

EE last increased line rental costs in November 2015 to an average of £17.50 per month for new customers. Also existing customers taking out new contracts. Here is another option for you to try.

It has also pushed up the cost for mobile customers this year, by an average of 1.3 per cent in March. 

In August it also hiked the cost of a range of phone packages made out of contract terms. This included a jump from 40p to 50p per minute for a standard UK call. Also a rise to £1.60 from £1 per minute for international calls.
